Our children have lived in Brooklyn NY (Gravesend) for the last 3 years. What a charming, big city it is. SO MANY things to do and see. Most first-time visitors to New York go to Manhattan.
I say "Go to Brooklyn". Stay in Brooklyn.
Here are just a few recommendations our kids showed us when visiting there.
Iconic Coney Island, YES, so Americana, lively and so historic. You have to ride on the
1920 built Deno's Wonder Wheel!
Brooklyn Museum
Ever-changing Exabits, this is an all-day visit and so worth your time. Start at the top floor
and work your way down. This museum has true American treasures.
Prospect Park
Such an incredible, beautiful place to visit. Always a lot of things happening in this park. A must-see in a beautiful part of Brooklyn!
Williamsburg, Brooklyn
One of my favorite books, A Tree Grows in Brooklyn, written in 1943, is based in Williamsburg,
Read that book and then visit this very popular area of Brooklyn.
So quaint and so historic.
Visit Smorgasburg!!
Food vendors from all over the world are on the waterfront, with amazing sights and amazing food. Saturdays during the season.
DUMBO
Down under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass. A great way to spend the day in the city, lots of shops and restaurants. Great photo opportunities. A must-visit area!
Shuffleboard
A great local's hangout, and so much fun! Who knew shuffleboard could be such a blast?
Check it out!
There are so many things to see and do in Brooklyn. Forget about Manhattan, check out where the real New Yorkers live and play...Brooklyn!! Stay in an Airbnb do not rent a car. Get the Curb app and take a taxi or subway where you want to go.
Enjoy the journey!
