The DOT has published "Aviation Consumer Protection Guidance".

It outlines what the airlines should do for customers in relation to

airline travel. This is an option for travelers to find out what they

are entitled to when a disruption occurs.

The airlines also have what is called the "Conditions of Carriage"

listed on their websites. Before contacting the Federal government

to help with a problem, I would suggest going to the airline directly

or to their consumer relations department.

If you do not get satisfaction from the airline, then you can file a

complaint with the Department of Transportation.

Many complaints/issues can be resolved prior to travel. Please help yourself and be proactive.
